Thread: Truth of Britain

These days you always hear about how Britain was able to withstand the German attacks on a daily basis and how heroic the Brits were. To go along with this is the famous Miracle of Dunkirk where once again it has been made out that the British were able to heroically escape being trapped by the Germans

Yet in reality it was nothing like that. Hitler had the ability and could of very easily destroyed Britain and the troops at Dunkirk. However he wanted to make it out to the British that he did not want a full out war with them and hoped that they would leave him be for a while so he could fight who he considered to be the number one threat. Russia.

Do you honestly believe this FD?? Hitler made many mistakes, but this wasn't one of them..

Nobody doubts that Dunkirk was a military disaster for the BEF. Still, nobody can blame the British press at the time for dressing it up as a triumph. It's a morale thing ! It is true at least that the rescue efforts were heroic. Whether Hitler could/should have sent Guderian to finish the job we'll never know!

Yes I do believe this. If you look into Hitler and his goals it was more on Russia than elsewhere. He did not want a full out war and he wanted Britian not to see him as a completley ruthless person. He spared the lives of the troops at Dunkirk to try and show this.

he didnt want an all - out war because simply too dangerous.

he didnt want to lose too many soldiers with a war against russia in the future. that's the proof, it would be far from easy for Hitler.

and it would be misery to control patriotic people, certainly when they live on an island, so supply can be cut off.

Not rewriting history just telling a part of the war that is often lost. Things have been so hyped up over the heroism of the British that people overlook the reality of things. But you cannot blame them. People needed a good story for propaganda.

Are there any movies on the Battle of Britain? I have never seen any or heard of any> But if you could list some I would be interested very much.
