M25 Tank Transporter

A M25 Tank Transporter had been designed as a transporter/recovery unit for the 12th Armoured Division. Here the 134th Ordnance, tows a M4 Sherman tank that had lost its track due to a mine explosion in battle during the attack on the Maginot-Line pillboxes near Rahlingen, France.

The M25 Tank Transporter in three-quarter front and rear view taken from the Technical Manual (top) and the “real thing” as displayed in France, 1994, taking part in the festivities celebrating the 50th Anniversary of the Allied landing in Normandy 1944 (below).

M26a1.

Hello,

The M25/26 Dragon Wagon, one of my al time favorit vehicle,s!

The M26A1 had due to the lost of weight the benefit that there was no more as a heavy burden on the front axl as with the armed M26 Tractor Truck.
This extra weight on the M26 cost regular breakdowns of the front axl.
And it also had the benefit that they saved on production costs and on precious resources.
The M26 was mainly constructed with recovery,s under enemy fire in mind butt the recovery units normaly didn,t to their job under hostile fire.
So their was no need for an armed version, and it saved as said production costs and resources and the benefit that the front axl had not as much weight to carry as on the armed version.
Beside,s the M26A1 there was yet an other version this was the M26A2 this one had the only difference on the M26A1 that this had an 24 volt electrical system.

But I like the armed M26 more than the unarmed M26A1 version.
The M26 looks more impressing I think.

This is my firts post so I hope you can understand my English!

Greetz!

Jelle.
