Crisbecq St-Marcouf Battery Photo Gallery
Some of these pictures can be found else where in the forums, thou i thought it was a good idea to add a crisbecq picture only thread as well as the story else where.
Link To Thread Here These 2 pictures are of the write up found at the site, will add these to give a little more insight to the pictures in here. ![]() ![]() This picture shows the larger of the two casemates named simply as #1 Bunker, in front you can see the large Gun Emplacement still bearing the land marks used by the Germans that marked points of fire. ![]() Another emplacement found at Crisbecq, as you enter this emplacement you can just make out #1 the entrance to where the Gun Emplacement Officers quarters was, #'s 2 & 3 were where the ammo storage was kept in bulk. The little apertures around the emplacement were for a number of items including cleaning materials, ammo, markers to name a few. ![]() This picture is taken from about the center of the battery, you can see the #1 casemate at top right and a storage bunker in center, the storage bunker also held around 9 soldiers, more on this can be read in the link above. ![]() The center of a Gun Emplacement where the 150mm gun would be loaded on to. Again the apertures clearly seen. ![]() |

A front picture of #1 Bunker at Crisbecq that the Americans tried so hard to bring down once it was taken from the Germans; they used quite an amount of explosives to try and achieve this but they were only able to fracture the back side walls as seen in the second picture.
![]() ![]() At Crisbecq there were about four of these type of Bunkers which were used for different purposes such as a hospital, sleeping quarters, stores, and even water storage, This one is the one that was hit when fired upon by the commander of Crisbecqs sister Battery a few miles away in Azeville when the Americans were starting to over power the Germans, again the story can be read followed by using the added link. To the left you can see the stair leading up to the Machine Gun post that each of these Bunkers had, ahead you can see #2 Bunker. In the second picture you can see how close the Shell fired from Azeville was from actually entering the Bunker ![]() ![]() This Crisbecq Bunker has a walk thru passage leading to the quarters of the Batteries Soldiers, each Bunker had three rooms again it was also used as a storage place as well as sleeping quarters. Thou you can see stairs leading down to the Bunker during 1944 Crisbecq was trenched from place to place ![]() |

Where these re-enactors are resting is the underground quarters of the soldiers who were manning #1 Bunker, again you can see the first Gun Emplacement from a different angle clearly visible now are the land markings, the markings were usually named after stars or planets, and even towns and Cities from Germany.
I have added an old picture of Crisbecq taken just before the invasion of a German coming from the underground quarters the exact position seen in the top picture where the re-enactors are. Also a picture taken 50+ years after from the same view point. ![]() ![]() ![]() This picture shows an aerial view of the #2 Bunker at Crisbecq, you can clearly see the US Jeep and the trench off to the left. ![]() An aerial view of the whole battery with the main areas clearly marked. ![]() |
