Typhoon fighter-Bomber

RAF ground crews “bombing up” a Typhoon fighter-bomber with rocket projectiles. The presence of these aircraft in the sky over Normandy, ready to pounce on German targets with devastating effect, gave the Allies a great tactical advantage. Their great firepower enabled them to prohibit large troop movements and severely restrict the mobility of Panzer forces.

A truly terrifying beast the Typhoon, for pilots aswell as for the hunted !
Superb photo there Jim, I thought I had them all ! Notice the word "British" can be read, scratched above the exhaust pipes...'wonder what the whole message was....

Here's a scan I did from a while back, the black & white wing markings can be seen clearly here. The aircraft could be easily mistaken for a FW190, so the markings were introduced. For D-Day, of course, all Allied aircraft were to have the same markings.

With my bad connection it makes watching these clips near-hand impossible

Will have to come back to it..

I have tried to make the writing out on the picture Dave, the more i expand it the more it disappears..
