Lee Marvin

In a career that included 31 films, Lee Marvin ofter played a tough-as-nails military man. He had the background for it, having been a Marine in real-life in WW2.

Lee Marvin

Hollywood actor Lee Marvin served as a Private First Class in the Marines in World War II. In the battle of Saipan in 1944, he was one of only nine survivors of his unit. He was seriously wounded during the battle and earned a trip home, where he spent months recovering. He was awarded the Purple Heart.

The Purple Heart.

Aw bugger I just wrote one out about Lee Marvin then then found it all here , doh !
It's worth adding maybe that his experiences as a soldier gave authenticity to the war films he starred in. The way he moves, talks, dresses and carries his rifle is as an instinctive soldier.
Marvin’s War films: The Big Red One; Hell In The Pacific; The Dirty Dozen; Sergeant Ryker; Combat! The Bridge At Chalons etc.

I had the honor of meeting Lee Marvin, and he was the most beautiful man I have ever met. Such wonderful manners, and a great sense of humor. I have met many personalities, politicans, and other famous people, and of all that I have met, Lee Marvin was my VERY FAVORITE. What a Man.

The best war film actors had to have been soldiers, dont think many other actors can pull it off right.
