Jimi Hendrix

Hendrix - a poor soldier who just wanted to play with his, er, guitar.

OK chaps this one's just for fun.
Jimi played no part in WWII whatsoever (born 1942), but he enlisted in the US Army in 1961, and was assigned to the famous 101st Airborne Division.
Here's the story of his time spent in the military, told in a series of random quotes mostly from his official mlitary record, with links provided to original source pages.....

He joined the Army at age 17, faked homosexuality and was discharged after 14 months. [Not sure about this one - Ed.]

Pvt Hendrix plays a musical instrument during his off duty hours, or so he says. This is one of his faults, because his mind apparently cannot function while performing duties and thinking about his guitar...

This last link contains scans of all 18 pages of his official military record, including all the sordid details.
Just to add, as if it needs saying, that Jimi became one of the most talented musicians the world has ever seen. Sadly there are no photos of him in uniform that I can find.

OK it's Dylan's song but after he heard Jimi's version, Dylan always tried to perform the song as close to the Hendrix version as possible, which he thought perfect.
Not a lot of people know that...

You have some people that know their duty to their country and even it if does not really fit their style, they do what they need to do. Then you have some people who choose to find every excuse to not have to do their duty to their country. I think that when you know what is right you will honestly do it. Good for him to attempting more than most would.
