I'm not sure if there is a thread started for this mini-series elsewhere but I couldn't find it and thought we'd be remiss not to discuss this show.

Has anyone else seen it?

There are ten hour long episodes produced by HBO and the show details the 101st Airborne Division (United States). The soldiers in this group experienced an incredible amount of action in the European theater, landing behind the beaches on D-Day and fighting all the way to Hitler's Eagle's Nest. It's a great show for anyone interested in WWII.

I haven't seen it, but I'd like to check it out.

Would you say it's pretty accurate historically? I know sometimes liberties are taken for the sake of making interesting stories in some film productions.

BoB is first-rate and is pure class, not just another run-of-the-mill war production.
It's currently being re-run on Brit TV, yesterdays episode was very moving, it followed a young U.S medic around in the Battle of Bastogne.
Running through the whole series is the sound of bullets hitting people with awful 'thwacks' and puffs of dust, very realistic and sickening, but that's war..
Captain Dick Winters is very good, I'd never have guessed he's played by a Brit Shakespearean actor..;)

The stephen Ambrose book that led to the series is of course an excellent read but to get another angle on E company I'd recommend PARACHUTE INFANTRY by DAVID KENYON WEBSTER. If you remember Webster is the educated German speaker who gets wounded and returns to the company. His book gives a personal account from diaries he kept at the time and obviously a slightly different take on some of the situations portrayed in the series. Much more warts and all, very honest and acknowledges more fully the other allies contributions..
