Question Role of India

During the first world war,India was still a non-independent country. It was under the control of British rule. But it indirectly involved itself in the first world war & fought against the central powers.India supported the British forces by supplying men & resources.India had provided over 1.3 million soldiers out of which nearly 47000 were killed & 65000 were injured in the war.India didn't have any direct relation to the war & still then it joined. What benefit it had got from the first world war ?Why it had joined the war ?

India's involvement was indeed a surprise. Apparently they wanted what any nation wanted, Independence, and surmised that joining the war would get them closer to it.
