Flak towers...

In medal of honour airborne there is a level that showcases a large tower with many flak 88's and other large artillery guns built into the design.

Now I realise that something of this magnitude would never exist but does the idea hold a grain of salt?
I have actually seen a bit of something about it on the discovery channel but did not understand whether they said it was actually exist or if it was just an idea...
so what do you think?

Well as far as i know the Flak towers did exist in Berlin, if my memory serves me right there were 3 of em forming a triangular protection zone in the centre of the city.
The Flak towers were also used by the general population as air raid shelters and the towers were blown up after the war to get rid of the em, only the remains of the thick concrete roof of just one tower remains today that partially buried you can see it on google earth....

The Flak Towers did indeed exist in Berlin. They were heavily fortified and were intended to stop the Russians as they fought their way in to the city in April 1945. However as with so many other German fortified structures they could either be bypassed or cut off and surrounded thereby nullifying their usefulness.

Aye, as stated there were 3 of these towers in Berlin, each with reinforced concrete walls 8ft think. The towers were 13 storey's high with 5 floors of these below ground. During the last days of the Battle of Berlin many treasures were moved to these towers for safer protection. Each Flak tower could hold up to 15000 people, which shows the immensity of the buildings. On top were the Flak guns which were 128mm in size, not sure of how many were placed on top of the towers thou.
