Thread: On the Home Front

Before my grandfather passed away I used to ask him lots of questions on what life was like in Northern Ireland in the twenties and the thirties. I never really asked what it was like in the war, when he was not fighting.

Does anyone know what it was like for those who for one reason or another were not part of the war effort?

I think it was different for each person that served and fought during the war. Each person will give you their interpretation and tell you how it affected them. I do think it would have been best to ask him while he was alive if you really wanted to know.

My dad fought in Korea and I never talked to him about the war. He's gone now and I can't. I agree with Jeanie that if you want to know, ask them while they are still alive.

Maybe as we get older we appreciate what these people actually did in their lives and its now that we wish we were more inquisitive when we were younger.
