Appointed In January 1939 to the responsible post of Minister for Co-ordination of Defence. Admiral of the Fleet Lord Chatfield entered the Navy in 1886 and was First Sea Lord from 1933 to 1938. He was knighted in 1919 and granted a peerage in 1937.
