Poorly planned War

Lets come up with some poorly thought out plans in WW2. Well we have to start somewhere and try to figure out which was the worst planned war game.

I believe that Hitler Attacking Russia when he was still fighting on the west side, and held a peace treaty with them was the biggest.

Another one would have to be the Chinese opening its doors to the Japanese at Nanking.

one is definitly hitting hawaii with everything except an invasion force, leaving the US with a naval base in the middle of the Pacific.
Invading Poland...up until then Hitler had his own way.
Messing about in the Ukraine instead of going for Moscow.
Stalingrad wasn't such a great idea either.

How about the Americans spending buckets of money on upgrading the 75mm gun on a Sherman to a 76mm...then discovering it still wasn't that good after they started shipping it to France instead of sending it to England for pounds

i think that overall the Africa corps wasnt a very good campaign as well.... Supply issue was its main downfall. To make it clear, the logistical aspects should have been though a little better, not to mention that the attack on Russia complicated things BUT An army cant function without supplies no matter who is incharge.

One of the bigest games was hitler taking the star role of been the General of all Armies.

I agree. Also, if more attention was devoted to the theatre and the germans in quantity were given something COMPARABLE to the 8th Army then it would of been alot different. However, opening an angle of attack in to the Caucasus is just a pipe-dream.

Things would have been very different if Italy had a good military leader... There is just no excuse of 350 thousand men loosing to 40,000 under equipped soldiers. Sending Rommel in with a small force and then not being able to supply him is just a shame. In fact when Hitler promoted Rommel to Fieldmarshal after the capture of Tobruk and 30,000 prisoners along with a supply dump, Rommel's reply was - It would be better if he sent me another division. Hah!!

Something that was very poorly done was the way that the top German Staff responded on D-Day, especially not awakening Hitler when it started, then Hitler not releasing the Panzers, to much emphasis on the thought that Calais was to be the invasion area.
